Microstock May 2008 Update
I haven’t really done a lot in getting my numbers of pictures increased this month. My big news this month is that I finally got accepted on ShutterStock and StockXpert. ShutterStock has been doing very well for me as you’ll see in the table below, I’ll take ShutterStock over Lucky Oliver any day. I’ve been accepted on StockXpert but haven’t gotten any pictures in my portfolio yet, not sure if I didn’t submit them correctly or if they just are really slow at getting them reviewed. Would have been nice if the initial five I submitted for approval would have gone right to portfolio, but that doesn’t appear to be the way that site works.
In the last couple days I did finally get some more shots together that I will upload, just need to do the post processing and keywording.
I should point out that these numbers are my career TOTALS not just the totals for May. When I get some more consistent downloads and earnings I’ll switch to monthly numbers.
| Sites | Portfolio Size | Downloads | Balance | Comments |
| Fotolia | 112 | 14 | $8.25 | |
| Lucky Oliver | —- | — | — | No longer up and running |
| IStockPhoto | 39 | 5 | $4.56 | |
| Crestock | 9 | 0 | $0.00 | |
| ShutterStock | 27 | 36 | $9.00 | Finally got accepted! |
| StockXpert | 0 | 0 | $0.00 | Did get accepted, just haven’t gotten any photos in portfolio yet |
| Dreamstime | 8 | 0 | $0.00 | |
| 123RF | 72 | 1 | $0.36 | |
| Totals | Avg.39 | 55 | $22.17 | Nice increase this month even with loss of LO |
Here’s a couple other blogs I follow, hopefully someday my earnings will rival some of theirs:

Now that you’re in Shutterstock, just keep adding images and your earnings will drastically rise! You should be able to triple these earnings with 100 or 150 images overally. So think 30 a week for a month and see how your earnings come up - you’ll be shocked, especially on SS. We added a ton of images and had a craaaaaaaaazy month on there!
keep at it!
I just might be able to pull that off. We went on a garden tour over the weekend and I took what I hope are lots of stock worthy pictures. Lot’s of textures and benches and things, tried to stay away from specific plants as they’re so over done.
The last week of June we’re also going on vacation so hope to get lots of good pictures there too, although it will probably take me a while to get them keyworded and uploaded. Need to streamline my post processing and submission.
Thanks for the encouragement.
Allen
Great stuff!
Congrats on getting accepted to shutterstock and stockxpert!
Numbers for me this month were down, but still OK

I agree with matts comment, you can see it from your figures, shutterstock are almost your highest earners with only 27 images. Do concentrate your efforts on getting all your images onto shutterstock and then onto stockxpert, much more valuable to spend time on that than submitting to 123rf (do them later if you are short of time)
Hi Allen,
I just discovered your blog through Matt’s NiltoMil. I have recently started blogging and recording my Microstock earnngs. feel free to have a look. It certainly is helping my sales because i have more of a focus on it.
