Nikon SB-600 Speedlight Flash

Well I broke down and bought the Nikon Speedlight SB-600 AF Flash Light – i-TTL, TTL, D-TTL, Manual – 65.6ft Range, but I bought it from Buy.com instead.

My wife has been wanting an MP3 player and I saw Sandisk Sansa c250 2GB MP3 Player, On the fly FM and voice recording, MicroSD slot -Recertified on Buy.com. An MP3 player for $17 I didn’t think I could pass it up.  It is refurbished, but I tend to trust the brand name SanDisk.

Nikon SB-600 Speedlight Flash

I’m really thinking about adding a Nikon SB-600 Speedlight to my Nikon D80 setup. I’ve got two nice lenses in my Nikon 18-200mm and Nikon 50mm f/1.8.  Currently my weakest area is lighting.  I think the speedlight will be my best overall option in lighting to start with, but would like to add some studio type lighting for when I try to take some portraits.

I’d love to find somewhere local to pick one up to use for the rest of our Christmas gatherings but the the best price I can find locally is $219.  If I can find one for $200 I’ll probably do it, otherwise it looks like the link below to Amazon is about the best price I can get, although it may take a week or so to get the price savings are worth it.

I’ll probably be making the decision in the next day or two.

Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED-IF AF-S VR II DX

We recently returned from a really great vacation to Glacier National Park in Montana (pictures to follow).  Of course two weeks before we plan to leave my Nikon 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S DX which came with my Nikon D80 decides to quit working.  I checked into getting it repaired but I would not have gotten it back before we left for vacation.  I had been looking at the Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED-IF AF-S VR DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens to upgrade the kit lens and I finally broke down and bought it.

It is a great all purpose lens.  The wide angle of 18mm was nice for landscape photography and the zoom to Nikon 18-200200mm was great for zooming right in on the wild life, like the mountain goats at the goat lick.  I’d love to have a longer telephoto lens for the next trip but it’s not really necessary with this lens.  It also works great for taking pictures of some of the kids sporting events.

I do plan to get the 18-135mm kit lens repaired and then I’ll have to decide which one I need to sell.  Hopefully at that point I’ll be able to justify keeping the 18-200mm lens.

Nikon Normal AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D Autofocus Lens

I recently bought a new lens for my Nikon D80 which I’m hoping will aid in me getting more pictures accepted at the microstock websites I submit to. Nikon 50 mm lensIt’s the Nikon Normal AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D Autofocus Lens. I’ve only had it about a week and so far I love being able to get good shots in the lower with the the aperture of 1.8, my other lens has a minimum aperture in the 3.4 range.

I haven’t had the opportunity to use it for much other than a couple quick snapshots. I’m hoping to try it with my light tent soon to see if I can improve on my isolation shots for the microstock sites.  Everything I’ve read about this lens says it is one that needs to be in every camera bag, unless it’s on the camera.  The sneaker zoom will take some getting used to since I’m used to the zoom telephoto 18mm – 135mm kit lens I got with the camera.

Check back soon to see some of the photos taken with the lens.
